Bhubaneswar: As per the latest update shared by the Secretariat of the Election Commission of India (ECI) at 7.08 PM an estimated 66.63 percent votes were polled in the by-poll held for Dhamnagar assembly constituency in Odisha today.
The ECI has, however, maintained that this is an approximate trend as data from some polling stations.
Long queues were seen in front of the polling stations even before voting began at 7 AM. Voting continued till 6 PM as scheduled.
Glitches in EVM were reported in some polling stations which were immediately solved.
A total of 2.38 lakh voters which included 1.23 lakh men and 1.15 lakh women were eligible to exercise their franchise in this by-poll.
Dhamnagar constituency recorded a drop in polling percentage this time as compared to previous elections which recorded around 70 percent voter turnout.
While in the 2019 assembly poll 72.64 percent of the voters exercised their franchise, the percentage in 2014 was 73.46.
Polling was held in 252 polling booths out of which 110 were declared sensitive.
Five candidates- BJP’s Suryabanshi Suraj, BJD’s Abanti Das, Independent candidate Rajendra Das, Congress’ Baba Harekrushna Sethi, and AAP’s Anwar Sheikh are in the fray.
