Koraput: After pesticides proved ineffective against the pest called Brown Planthopper, popularly known as ‘Chakada Poka’ in colloquial language, the farmers in Borigumma block of Koraput district are now adopting the traditional methods.
The farmers had sought the help of the local Agriculture Officer to save the crops but were not able to get any effective solution. Finally, the farmers are conducting worship and sprinkling water on the farm to save the crops.
In Borigumma block, 60% people are dependent on agriculture. Paddy is being cultivated in 37 thousand hectares of land in the block.
Massive damage of paddy crops due to pest attack at Nuaguda village in Borigumma block has become a matter of concern for the farmers.
Around 25 percent of crops have damaged in the area. Farmers who have taken loan are now in doubt if they will be able to pay it back or not.
