“Smt. Barsha Singh Bariha, W/O Shri Smruti Sourav Baliarsingh is the Biju Janata Dal candidate for Bye-elections to 01-Padampur Assembly Constituency,” read the announcement.
Voting for the bypoll will be held on December 5, while results are scheduled to be declared on December 8. The last date of filing nomination papers is November 17 and the scrutiny is on November 18. The last date of withdrawing candidature is November 21.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded former MLA Pradip Purohit as its candidate for the by-election while the Congress party has chosen its former legislator Satya Bhusan Sahu.
The by-election was necessitated after the death of sitting MLA Bijaya Bariha on October 3. He had defeated Purohit with a margin of 5,500 votes in the 2019 assembly election.
