Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police here have arrested three youths for defrauding a businessman of over Rs 31,000.
The accused persons have been identified as Soumya Ranjan Pradhan (30) alias Lucky alias Manisha of Boudh town, Sunil Kumar Samantara (32) of Berhampur and Tushar Kanti Bai (29) alias Santu of Jenapur in Jajpur district.
Police have seized six mobile phones and Rs 50,000 in cash from their possession. They have been forwarded to court today.
According to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhubaneswar on Saturday (Nov 12) based on a complaint by one Vikash Sehegal, the Cyber Crime & Economics Offence police station registered a case.
The Cyber Crime & Economics Offence police have arrested the aforementioned three persons and forwarded them to court.
As per details of the case, complainant Vikash Sehegal on the day of the incident received a call from an unknown number on his mobile phone. The caller introduced himself as the PA (personal assistant) of a minister. Informing that the minister was organizing a ‘yagna’ in Kalahandi district, the caller requested for sending some money which was urgently required and gave a different phone number for contacting which was being used by a priest named Maa.
The complainant is a businessman and is known as a benevolent person, transferred Rs 34,500 to phone number 82800909777 through PhonePe. The phone number concerned on being contacted after some time of the fund transfer was found to be switched off.
The complainant on realising that he has been duped lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime & Economics Offence police station.
The Cyber Crime & Economics Offence police after registering the case nabbed the aforementioned three persons.
During the investigation, police seized six mobile phones and Rs 50,000 in cash from them. They have confessed to their crime during interrogation.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
