Bhubaneswar: Ganja weighing more than 2.5 tonnes was destroyed by a team of Odisha police at a designated incinerator at Seragada tehsil in Ganjam district. The decision to destroy this massive quantity of contraband was taken by the High Level Drug Disposal Committee.
Southern Range IGP, Satyabrata Bhoi leads the committee which has SP, STF; SP, Gajapati; and Superintendent Of Excise as members. The destruction was carried out in the presence of other members of disposal committee following all due procedures.
The ganja destroyed today was seized by Mohana police in Gajapati district during a raids conducted in 2020 and 2021. “The seized drugs were first authenticated/ certificated by the court and handed over to High Level Drug Disposal Committee for the disposal/ destruction,” a senior STF official said.
So far, the Odisha Police has disposed/destructed more than 26 tonnes of ganja involving 118 NDPS cases and around 13 kg brown sugar seized under 10 cases.
