Baripada: Popular Odia cine lyricist Nimai Mohanty passed away today. Mohanty who was ailing for the last few years breathed his last at his Puruna Hatsahi residence here today afternoon.
He was 69 and has penned lyrics for more than 30 Odia films. He was practicing as a senior lawyer at the District Court here.
Mohanty was an approved lyricist of All India Radio, Cuttack, and Doordarshan and had composed lyrics for many eminent singers and composers like Akshay Mohanty, Radhakrushna Bhanja, Shantanu Mohapatra, Raghunath Panigrahi and Bappi Lahiri of Bollywood.
Mohanty was awarded the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademy award in 2012 and several other awards at different points in time.
His death has been mourned by eminent personalities from different circles.
