Bhubaneswar: Suryabanshi Suraj, the son of former Dhamnagar MLA Bishnu Sethi, on Wednesday took oath as the new legislator for Dhamnagar assembly constituency.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had fielded Suraj as its candidate after the demise of senior party leader Bishnu Sethi.
Suraj won the Dhamnagar MLA seat by a margin of 9,881 votes. He garnered 80,351 votes while his nearest rival BJD candidate Abanti Das got 70,470 votes.
The voting for the bypoll was conducted on November 3 at 252 polling booths and 68.98 per cent polling recorded. The counting was held on November 6.
