Bhubaneswar: Following a spate of incidents related to dog-bites, and ensuing fights between dog owners and the victims, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has swung into action.
The Corporation will be soon introducing ‘pet’ guidelines for animal lovers who keep pets at home. They will need to strictly adhere to these guidelines, and any deviation will invite action.
Animal lovers in the city have welcome the move, as major Indian cities have specific guidelines related to pets, and it was very much necessary in a growing city like Bhubaneswar.
The guidelines will entail norms meant for owners of pets and other domesticated animals and birds. How these are kept at home, and what kind of rules are to be followed when the pets are out of homes, all these will be detailed in the guidelines, a senior BMC official said.
People will need to declare about owning a pet and certify that they are taking proper care of the animals. There will be a dedicated team to verify all these, the official added.
