Bhubaneswar: Rescue operation is underway to ascertain if any more persons are being trapped inside the rubble as a result of the derailment of a goods train at Jajpur’s Korai station in Bhadrak-Kapilas Road Railway Section under Khurda Road Railway Division of East Coast Railway today morning.
Fire Services DG Santosh Upadhyay informed that teams of ODRAF, Police, and Railway are carrying out the rescue operation. Hydra Crane and JCB machine have been engaged to remove the derailed wagons to find out if any more persons are trapped under.
Senior officials including Jajpur SP is supervising the rescue operation. General Manager of East Coast Railway with other Principal heads of departments have rushed to the accident site to monitor early restoration of train services and relief works.
The East Coast Railway has issued emergency helpline numbers. They are 8455889905; 8455887864; 8455887862 at Korai Station, 0674-2534027 at Bhubaneswar, and 0674-2492245 at Control Room, Khurda Road.
It is pertinent to mention that the goods train derailed and rammed into the waiting hall at the railway station. Three persons including two women died in the mishap while several others were injured. All the injured have been shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
